Hitt Music Group

Last week I was contacted by a promo company called Hitt Music Group. I decided tonight to respond. I had an experience with a group called A&R Worldwide last year that just totally insulted me (I was compared to the Red Hot Chili Peppers), so I'm skeptical to say the least. But, I figured there could be no harm in following up with somebody who is considering me for a "potential label and/or publishing deal". The thing is, I value the hard work that this industry requires and these promotion companies make it seem too easy and it really turns me off. I also would never work with someone who didn't have the same passion for my music that I do; there's just no way I could be successful like that. I don't want ANY attention, I want the RIGHT attention. That's a hard thing to find. I'm keeping a positive attitude about it, hopefully this will be legit.

Zach Farrow

We're interested in speaking with you about your music, and to see where we could benefit your career. My name is Melissa, I'm an A&R scout for several labels and music supervisors throughout the country. I'm reaching out to you because the music on your myspace site is being considered by our A&R staff for a potential label and/or publishing deal.

So if you could please respond back with your contact info, I will have one of our VP's from our Los Angeles office contact you asap.

Thanks again, and we look forward to hearing back from you.

Sincerely,
Melissa

My name is Eric Dawson and I am responding on behalf of the Hitt Music Group.

There seems to be a bit of confusion of how we conduct our business. We are very proud of the accomplishments we've had as a company for our artists. A service company that helps promote your music is not a new idea, and certainly has been done before ( i.e. Taxi, Sonicbids etc). We are here to revolutionize the way a company like ours does business.

HMG was created to help further develop the passion of music as a career. We realize HMG is NOT FOR EVERYBODY, especially those who consider music as more of a hobby. The purpose is to give independent musicians the same type of opportunities that have always been available to the major industry players. HMG is a service-based company that charges a flat fee. This ensures that it never becomes about who's making the most money, otherwise they would be getting all of the attention, all the time. With our flat fee based service, every artist is on the same playing field all of the time. Each of our members receive consistent opportunities throughout their membership term.

If anyone has any questions about our company and services, please send an email to info@hittmusicgroup.com

All the Best,
Eric Dawson

Hey, I thought I should warn you that Hitt Music Group is definitely a scam. They sent me an identical letter to the one you received, and if you Google them all sorts of stories pop up about people's experiences with the frauds. Stay away!

My band had received the same email also, and they are a very legit company. I was skeptical at first, like anyone would be, but when I checked out their website, and also called them a couple times and talked to a few different people. I felt a lot better. I felt like the email was generic, but they are a music service corporation, so I'm sure they have some sort template to work off of. But what company doesn't.

I joined their group and my band have received excellent service, and have benefited a lot in my opinion. I feel like its ok to be skeptical, but you are missing out on a great opportunity if you write this off as a scam. You should check them out, maybe they can help you.

Heyy! My friend's band got scouted too and jointed them awhile ago. We did researches with some bands that actually work with them and feed back was satisfactory. They gave my friend a direction to go and help along the way to develop music and exposures. I would say over all they did a good job! I think its kinda wrong to say someone is a scam when you don't actually know them, sounds like company competition trying to slander others~ just my opinion =)

Wendy:

No, I'm not from a company, nor am I their competition. Please see my website - JillianGoldin.com. I'm a musician.

Do you see all those posts above that were removed by their authors? I know why that happened. After Hitt Music Group saw my post, they called and threatened to sue me for "slandering" them if I didn't delete my comments. They didn't even use the correct legal terminology for that type of situation. I told them to have a lawyer contact me if they were serious, and they said they would. Never heard back. ;)

Yeah, this is totally a scam. I received an almost identical, vague MySpace message on my music profile. Notice that they don't want to tell you why they like your music or give you any details.

Also, when it comes to the "success story" posted by "Luis Ortega" of "Torched Souls", "Mr. Ortega" left an identical comment on this blog.

Don't get suckered by these con artists who seek only to prey on the aspirations of honest, hard-working artists.

hey - there is this company called Taxi - that is legit, or at least I have read that it is legitimate in several articles - so how is this company (hitt) any different?

jillian - that is totally scary/weird that they would contact you about blog posts, though... a bit scientology-esque - are you serious about that?!

If anyone hasn't figured it out yet, this company is a hoax and will do anything to repair their online reputation (which is pretty bad).

"Torched Souls" = Hitt Music Group Intern

Check out the "Torched Souls" myspace page, they don't look like a band who's done anything.

I went through this whole ordeal, send me a message if you're thinking about it and I'll gladly talk about it with you.

TOTAL SCAM.

Oh and their "CEO" Duke Machado used to be a salesman at an auto parts store. Don't give him any money unless you're buying tires.

They have an elaborate set-up online to try and convince you otherwise -- including polished Web sites, social networking profiles, and fake user feedback. They've even created fake bands to serve as fraudulent testimonials. They are not like Taxi or Sonic Bids -- these companies don't claim to be more than what they are, paid music services. Hitt Music claims they're interested in your music for "a project" they're working on with a "publishing company" or "music supervisor" or "producer." Don't get burned! Save your $400 or spend it elsewhere to forward your music career. Good luck.

Bryan. You are such a loser. You don't even know how to do your research. And you know what sucks guys is that I am a hard working solo artist who joined Hitt Music Group and am very happy with them. I am an actual MEMBER not some loser blogger that has nothing better to do then voice their pathetic, hater opinion.

If you are a real musician, prove it. I want to actually check out your Myspace page. Who are you? And by the way, Duke Machado is the CEO of Hittmusiclink.
http://www.1888pressrelease.com/hitmusiclink-com-duke-machado-9809-company-pr.html. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS NOT THE SAME GROUP YOU UNEDUCATED HATER! Making real artists like me look stupid for spending money on my career. Do your research like I said! And you will see that they have a VERY HIGH rating with the BBB, a credible company, like them. Losers like you are always negative, so guys take it from a REAL musician that actually spent the money and I will give my fellow musicians a correct testimonial and the truth.

If you were actually smart, you would do real research and not believe NON members like yourself that are full of HATE. Nothing in this world comes FREE! Seems like you are a young and uneducated kid!

Wow. It looks like I'm a little late to the party. Hitt Music Group is definitely a scam guys. Check out our site specifically set up to educate artists about Hitt Music Group.

BTW in reference to Mark above, that Blogger profile was just created today, specifically to make a post on this site. Do you think a real musician would go to the trouble of scanning for negative remarks about Hitt Music Group so he can create a new Blogger account and defend their rep? Probably not...

I have a father in the music business, very successful country artist (won't say the name considering that HMG will probably flame them somehow) and he's won several awards, including a Grammy in 1996. We both looked into HMG... and they are a complete scam.

I don't know you, but if you're smart my friend, you'll wait it out and stay away from this garbage. I promise you it's not worth it to lose $400. I was also contacted on my personal music site with the SAME EXACT message you had.

Bryan. I don't know who you are, but I have noticed your inconsistent comments on 3 or 4 different blogs associating me (Duke Machado) as the CEO of Hitt Music Group. I would like to correct the record for you. I would also like for you to quit copying and pasting your comments on other blogs. I am the CEO of Hitmusiclink.com. A totally different company! My company offers Live Chatting with Bands/Artists from around the world. Also, we offer Newsletters, A Free Legal consultation with an Entertainment Attorney, and a Cool EPK. Oh...and did I mention it was FREE? So, let the world know...and now that you know the truth...maybe you could visit MY website and take a look around.

To everyone else reading this post...I apologize for boring you with these minor details, but these days...all we have is our good reputation and name, and it is important to get the facts straight.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and Bryan...if you still have other questions...please send me an email...

Sincerely,

Duke Machado

As a former artist manager of a few of the top rock acts today, and now a professional musician myself, I want to send a message to other aspiring artists... I was contacted by Hitt Music Group regarding my music... the bottom line here... they are asking you to pay for a membership. If someone contacts YOU regarding YOUR music, then asks YOU to pay THEM... they are not legit. If Hitt Music wants to be a legit company, they should GET YOU RESULTS FIRST. To prey on aspiring artists, many of whom aren't that good anyway, is a slimey existence. Bottom of the food chain. I worked in a high power office, and honestly, we had a tough time getting 99% of our bands anywhere. A good manager can get you on tour and some cash to record. Build a fanbase on your own. Good things will come. Shortcuts lead to heartbreak and broken dreams.

I just received a similar offer on myspace.....so I decided to look into them. They charge $400 up front....that's your clue right there....that should send a red flag up.....STAY AWAY!!!!.....so they're going to represent anyone who gives them money to do so...which means record companies are going to run and hide...because it is not anyone of substance that this Hitt Music Group will represent....just anyone willing to pay. A legit company will take a percentage of what you $make$....never a flat rate up front....because they believe you are talented enough to $$EARN$$ money.
